Granola In A Hot Minute
Have you ever gone to the supermarket, saw granola on the shelf, and thought to yourself “Do I need milk?”, and then thought to yourself “How hard could it be to make this stuff myself?” You then look at the ingredients and see a paragraph long list when all the front of the package says is oats, almonds and honey. Huh? How did three ingredients turn into Moby Dick? Well, no worries because we here at TEG believe that eating right doesn’t only consist of eating foods that are “healthy” but knowing what you are actually putting in you. So, head over to your spice rack grab the soy lecithin and let’s get cooking! Just kidding, we use real ingredients here.
Prep Time: 3 min
Cook Time: 1 min
Rest Time: 3 min
Total Time: 7 min
¼ Second Spray of Cooking Spray
¼ Cup Rolled Oats
¼ Cup Chopped Dates (loosely packed)
¼ Cup Raisins
1 Tbsp Flax Seeds (Optional)
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Cayenne Pepper (Optional, unless you like it hot. Aha my man!)
1 Tbsp Honey
Begin by preparing a microwave safe plate with the cooking spray. No worry, at this serving the bottle says the nutrition is zero for everything. Next, chop and loosely pack ¼ cup of dates or you can use raisins instead. Combine all of the dry ingredients together on the plate. If you don’t have flax seeds you can substitute in almonds or peanuts, up to you! If you do substitute, just increase the serving from 1 Tbsp to ¼ cup. Lastly, drizzle the honey on top. Place in microwave on high for 40 seconds. Stir, and microwave for another 20 seconds. Let rest for about 3 minutes, or until desired crispiness.
Serve as a topping for plain nonfat Greek yogurt, or put in a bag and eat it on the go. Eat smart!
